About HEADWAY – UK

Headway UK was set up in 1979 by the families of brain injured individuals.  When seeking support and help for their relatives, they discovered very little resources were available and therefore decided to set up their own group. Headway (National Head Injuries Association) was registered as a charity in March 1980 with a Management Committee formed the following year. At the first AGM in December 1981, there were 22 local groups present, which has now grown to a family of 114 groups and branches.  This includes 55 Headway Houses which are run and managed by the local groups to support people with brain injury and their families.
